Outreach

2019 | 2018 | 2017
As part of our community outreach Friends of Fort Halifax Park, Inc. members enjoy cultivating partnerships and friendships with businesses and other organizations.  We enjoy visiting with the community, not only at the park but at other venues as well.  You can become one of our many partners too by contacting us here.

FoFHP members can be seen at a few outreach events and/or speaking engagements each year. For outreach information check the Events list on our Home page often to see what we have scheduled.

Come visit us at an event or presentation, or attend one of our meetings.  Our "Friends" organization takes our Mission seriously.   Fort Halifax Park is a passive recreation park open year round.  FoFHP hosts or offers many programs, events, school field trips, and more!  Thank you for your support!

Halifax Area School District Science, Nature, and History Field Trips

HASD Science, Nature, and History Education at Fort Halifax Park - FoFHP is happy to coordinate and host at the park, HASD Science teacher Ms. Jessica McGuire.  Ms McGuire and FoFHP coordinate 2 Field Trips each year.  A Fall trip includes 7th grade students and Environmental Action Club members, teachers, facilitators, and chaperones for Science Ecology Field Trips.  Student Environmental Action Club members (high school students) set up stations: stream ecology, meadow ecology, woodland ecology, land use and human impact, and the amazing Susquehanna River with rotating groups for about 80 students.  The Spring Field Trip includes small school groups.  Currently the students choose from two programs. One is a History Program where students spend the day with a Flintknapper learning about Native American life on the frontier.  The second is a Nature Program where students learn the proper use and care of binoculars and do a Nature Walk with an experienced local birder.  The students learn how to observe, recognize, find, and call various birds at the park. The May 2023 Field Trip observances included about 30 different kinds of birds, including eagles, indigo buntings, herons, bluebirds, and more. Results are uploaded to Cornell and Audubon for record keeping. The weather so far has been beautiful for these visits at the park and everyone enjoys these fun and educational days!

Halifax Communities That Care - May Day of Caring

Every May, since 2021 Halifax Communities That Care - Day of Caring has been coming to Fort Halifax Park.  FHP is one of the many DofC recipients, and we are grateful for the help they give!  Many people graciously committ to this day visiting various community businesses and organizations to assist with various tasks.  At FHP, DofC volunteers help our Friends volunteers with park clean up, weedwhacking, and spreading mounds of wood chips in multiple areas of the park.  It is always an amazing day from a fabulous group of hard working people.  Everyone feels really great after they see what they have accomplished not to mention how beautiful the park looks when it is done!  THANK YOU to EVERYONE who comes out every year and volunteers for this very worthy event that benefits our Halifax community!

Belsnickel Parade - Halifax Area Historical Society

The Halifax Area Historical Society (HAHS) organizes the Belsnickel Parade every year. Friends of Fort Halifax, Inc. participated again this year with many other local organizations. Among the hit attractions in this parade is our very own Belsnickel (son of one of our members). The Belsnickel made sure all the local children along the Parade route received candy! The crowd enjoyed the Parade and this old German folklore character! (December 2018)
